NBA Recap: Atlanta Hawks (87) vs. Miami Heat (105) - Date: 1/31/2016 For a franchise with three NBA championships in the past decade and a 27-game winning streak along the way, putting together four consecutive victories might seem insignificant. Not in this case. Ending a brutal January schedule the right way, the Miami Heat got 18 points from Chris Bosh and beat the Atlanta Hawks 105-87 on Sunday night. CBS Sports Picks. The Heat finished January with a 9-8 mark - playing 11 of their previous 12 games before Sunday on the road - and now have a four-game winning streak in the regular season for the first time since March 28 to April 2, 2014. Being on the floor for the first time was really fun, but it's not about me, it's about the team and finding some wins," he said. "I'm happy to be back to say the least." While they got Kidd-Gilchrist back, the Hornets might have some missing players for the finale of their four-game Western trip. Nicolas Batum is expected to sit out because of more trouble with a sprained right toe. Batum has missed seven games because of that injury in 2016 and sat out three straight until a 102-73 drubbing to Utah on Wednesday. He had three points on 1-of-11 shooting and eight assists in nearly 40 minutes Friday against his former team. Cody Zeller (shoulder) and Al Jefferson (knee) are also expected to sit out. Jeremy Lin (ankle) and Jeremy Lamb (toe), who has missed the last four games, are considered questionable." We're just trying to come in here and do what we can to win," forward Tyler Hansbrough said. "That's our only focus. I know we have a lot of guys out and our team is hurting in ways. We're just trying to step up and do what we can to win." Even being short-handed, the Hornets ( ;22-25) might have enough to get past the Lakers (9-40), who have been outscored by an average of 16.6 points during their nine-game slide. Los Angeles has experienced only one skid that's gone longer, when it dropped its final 10 games in 1993-94. NBA Basketball Handicappers. The Lakers couldn't take advantage of a Los Angeles Clippers team that was missing star Blake Griffin in a 105-93 loss Friday." We put a lot of work in and losing isn't fun," guard Jordan Clarkson said. While Kobe Bryant sat out with an ailing right shoulder and Achilles, Julius Randle had a career-high 23 points and 14 rebounds. Bryant is considered questionable and second-leading scorer Lou Williams (illness) is listed as probable. Bryant scored a team-best 20 points despite missing 15 of 20 shots in a 108-98 loss in Charlotte on Dec. 28. Fixed Games. The 18-time All-Star, who is averaging 8.1 points in his last eight games, hasn't been held below 20 in his last nine matchups with the Hornets, the franchise that drafted him 13th overall in 1996. Kemba Walker had 38 points for Charlotte, which is 2-12 on the road since Dec. 16, with both victories coming in overtime. Charlotte has suffered back-to-back defeats since opening its trip Monday with a double-overtime win against Sacramento. Walker has a combined 29 points in the past two games after averaging 32.6 in his previous five. He had a career-best 52 in a double-overtime victory over Utah on Jan. 18. Free NBA Basketball Picks. The Hornets have won back-to-back games against the Lakers after losing six of seven but have dropped five of six road contests in the series.

NBA Preview: Atlanta Hawks vs. Miami Heat - 1/31/2016 - 6:00 PM EST

NBA Preview: Atlanta Hawks vs. Miami Heat - Date: 1/31/2016 Time: 06:00 P.M. EST Venue: AmericanAirlines Arena   An offense revived by a healthy backcourt has the Miami Heat back on track and close to the top of the Southeast Division. Free Tennis Picks. They'll head home with a chance to overtake the slumping Atlanta Hawks for first place as the teams meet Sunday night. In the midst of a grueling stretch in which it's playing 14 of 16 on the road, Miami (26-21) lost seven of eight from Jan. 9-22 as it dealt with several injuries to relinquish the division lead to the Hawks. Free NBA Basketball Picks. The Heat have since regrouped to win the final three of a five-game trip, all by four points or less, and move within one-half game of Atlanta (27-21)." Probably the biggest area we've shown some improvement is (our) grit and some toughness to be able to win some tough games on the road," coach Erik Spoelstra said after Friday's 107-103 victory at Milwaukee. "It's never easy, and it's certainly not easy in the Eastern Conference. Sports Handicappers Rankings. These are tough places to play ... you have to earn these games." Miami enters just its second game at AmericanAirlines Arena since Jan. 6 in better shape physically as well. Goran Dragic and Josh McRoberts returned from extended absences on Friday, and Dwyane Wade has averaged 25.3 points in four games after missing one with a shoulder injury. Wade scored 24 points and had the game's final six against the Bucks, breaking a 101-all tie with a jumper with 44.5 seconds remaining. Dragic added 12 with eight assists after missing eight games with a strained calf." Look, we're a no excuses team, but we look a lot different with (Dragic and McRoberts)," Spoelstra said. Miami's still isn't qui te at full strength, as center Hassan Whiteside could miss a fifth consecutive game with a hip strain and reserve guard Tyler Johnson is out with a shoulder injury. Profitable NBA Basketball Handicappers. The Heat are certainly making strides offensively, however, having shot 52.2 percent while topping 100 points in their last two wins. Sports Bettors Phone Leads. They averaged 80.3 over a season-high four-game skid that preceded Monday's 89-84 victory at Chicago. Atlanta has struggled to score during a 1-4 stretch, failing to top 95 points in each of those defeats. It's shot 40.9 percent and averaged 18 turnovers in the losses. NBA Basketball Handicappers. Those problems were most evident during the late stages of Thursday's game at Indiana, where the Hawks were outscored 23-2 over the final 5:34 of a 111-92 setback." We didn't do anything right that last few minutes of the game," guard Kyle Korver said. "We missed some defensive assignments. They hit some shots. We had turnovers on the other end. Missed some shots. The thing just snowballed on us. We have to be better at the end of the game." Atlanta, 2-18 when held under 97 points, was further hindered with leading scorer Paul Millsap sidelined the entire second half by a sprained left ankle. The All-Star forward is probable for Sunday's game. Though Wade has carried the Heat of late, Chris Bosh's performance may have a greater impact on Sunday's outcome. The veteran forward had 24 points and went 4 of 6 from 3-point range as Miami halted a seven-game series losing streak with a 100-88 victory at Atlanta on Dec. 14, a game Wade finished 3 of 16 for seven points. Bosh was held to nine of 4-of-14 shooting in the Hawks' 98-92 win in Miami on Nov. 3, with Atl anta's Jeff Teague recording a season-high 26 points and nine assists. Teague had just seven on a 2-of-12 effort in last month's loss.

NCAAB Preview: Rutgers vs. Michigan State - 1/31/2016 - 5:15 PM EST

NCAAB Preview: Rutgers vs. Michigan State - Date: 1/31/2016 Time: 05:15 P.M. EST   Michigan State wants to get into its halfcourt sets as fast as possible, often inbounding the ball quickly following an opponents' basket or throwing a long outlet pass after grabbing a rebound. It's also a style that occasionally leads to turnovers, though the 12th-ranked Spartans don't feel as much wrath from their coach if they're converting regularly on other opportunities. It certainly wouldn't be a surprise if Michigan State puts a big number on the scoreboard Sunday when it hosts a Rutgers team allowing the most points per game in the Big Ten. Sports Handicapping. The Spartans (18-4, 5-4) are averaging 12 turnovers and ranked eighth or worse in the conference in giveaways per game each season from 2006-14. NCAAB College Basketball Handicappers. They're back to eighth after finishing sixth last season and committ ed 15 turnovers at Northwestern on Thursday. Michigan State overcame those mistakes, though, by hitting 16 of 26 3s in a 76-45 victory as Denzel Valentine went 5 of 7 from long distance and finished with 19 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Soccer Predictions. The Spartans rank last in the Big Ten with a minus-2.7 average turnover differential, but it leads the conference with a plus-11.2 field-goal percentage differential. Free NCAAB College Basketball Picks. That's part of the reason coach Tom Izzo was able to live with Valentine's season high-tying six turnovers against the Wildcats.'' As I'm learning more and more, and I don't really say I like it, but you make a shot, it takes away all evils,'' Izzo said after his team shot 50 percent for the first time in five games. "And we made a lot of shots.'' The Spartans have gotten it done defensively, too, ranking second in the nation in field-goal percentage defense (36.7) and rebound differential (plus-11.9 per game). Freshman Deyonta Davis has been in the starting lineup for the last four and finished with eight points, a season high-tying 11 rebounds and a season-high six blocks against the Wildcats. He's third in the Big Ten with an average of 2.05 blocks per game, which also ranks sixth in the country among freshmen.'' I'm starting to understand,'' Davis said. ''But I give credit to my teammates because they help me along with my coaches.'' The Spartans are fourth in the conference in field-goal percentage (47.8) and points per game (81) while leading the nation by assisting on 71.4 percent of their field goals. Number #1 Sports Handicapping Service. That off ensive efficiency could present fits for Rutgers, which is allowing a Big Ten-high 77.5 points per game. Profitable NCAAB College Basketball Handicappers. The Scarlet Knights (6-15, 0-8) were better Wednesday, falling 68-57 at Michigan after dropping their previous six by an average of 28.5 points and allowing at least 90 in each of the previous four. Mike Williams scored 17 points and freshman Corey Sanders added 15 for Rutgers, which has dropped 22 straight Big Ten games since beating Wisconsin last January at home. It is winless in 13 conference road games since joining the league last season. Sanders has been a bright spot, though, averaging a team-high 14.1 points and ranking third in the Big Ten with 1.75 steals per game.'' We can take a lot of positives out of our last couple of games,'' coach Eddie Jordan said. ''There has been a lot of growth from our young pla yers. Every game and every film session, we get more and more positive clips.'' Bryn Forbes had 18 points to help Michigan State overcome a 2-for-13 shooting performance from Valentine in last season's 71-51 victory at Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights have lost 26 straight road games to ranked opponents since winning at No. 13 Pittsburgh on Jan. 26, 2008.

NBA Preview: Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Portland Trail Blazers - 1/31/2016 - 9:00 PM EST

NBA Preview: Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Portland Trail Blazers - Date: 1/31/2016 Time: 09:00 P.M. EST Venue: Moda Center   The Minnesota Timberwolves' headache is intensifying, and Portland likely isn't the place to bring the swelling down - especially the way the Trail Blazers are playing lately. Basketball Handicappers. The Blazers seek their first four-game winning streak since March and look to continue their home dominance over the sinking Timberwolves on Sunday night. Portland (22-26) is enjoying its best stretch of the season with seven wins in nine games, and things figure to continue trending upward with eight of the next 10 coming at the Moda Center. NBA Basketball Handicappers. The Blazers have won five of six there, including a 3-1 start to a season-high seven-game homestand. Fox Sports Picks. They have won seven consecutive home games against the last-place Timberwolves (14-34& #041; and hold an 18-1 record in Portland versus their Northwest Division foe over the past decade. After opening its homestand with a 104-98 loss to Southeast-leading Atlanta, Portland has logged three wins of at least 15 points over the Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento and Charlotte. Free NBA Basketball Picks. The Blazers have averaged 114.0 points in those games.'' Our team is growing closer,'' Damian Lillard said after scoring a game-high 22 in Friday's 109-91 victory over the Hornets. ''We're trusting each other more.'' Lillard averaged 27.5 points as the Blazers won the first two meetings with the Timberwolves this season in Minnesota, giving them three straight victories in this series and a 28-5 record since the start of 2007-08. Hot Sports Handicappers. The two wins this season were tight ones, 106- 101 on Nov. 2 and 109-103 on Dec. 5. Minnesota rookie Karl-Anthony Towns had 27 points and 12 rebounds in the last matchup and enters this one on a roll, averaging 23.0 points and 12.5 boards in the past six games while shooting 63.3 percent. However, the Timberwolves are 1-5 in that span and have lost three straight despite Towns having double-doubles in each game. Minnesota has lost 14 of 16 overall and 10 in a row on the road, equaling its longest skid away from home since dropping 11 straight to close the 2010-11 season. Profitable NBA Basketball Handicappers. Towns, 20, finished with a season-high 32 points and 12 rebounds in Friday's 103-90 loss at Utah, becoming the youngest player since Kevin Durant in 2008 to have a 30-point, 10-rebound game. Even after making 13 of 17 shots, Towns was hard on himself - particularly for his defensive work. The Jazz are one of the lower-scoring teams in the NB A but shot 52.6 percent. Opponents are averaging 110.7 points on 49.3 percent shooting in Minnesota's last six games." I played terrible, so they were scoring," the 6-foot-11 Towns said. "I couldn't do nothing. I was like a brick out there for my team (Friday night)... I played like crap. I didn't play well at all defensively. My teammates were the ones that got me points, I didn't get myself points." Zach LaVine combined for just 22 points while making 7 of 21 shots in the first two matchups against the Trail Blazers, but the second-year point guard has averaged 25.0 points in the last three games while shooting 70.5 percent. Andrew Wiggins had a season-low five points on 2-of-11 shooting Friday. He's shot a combined 11 of 32 from the field in this season series.

NCAAB Preview: Oregon vs. Arizona State - 1/31/2016 - 8:30 PM EST

NCAAB Preview: Oregon vs. Arizona State - Date: 1/31/2016 Time: 08:30 P.M. EST   Oregon hasn't won a regular-season conference championship in 14 years, but it has emerged as one of the favorites following three consecutive quality victories. First-year coach Bobby Hurley is trying to rebuild Arizona State into a contender in the Pac-12, and he's seen some improvement lately. Football Picks. The 23rd-ranked Ducks look to beat the Sun Devils for the seventh time in eight meetings when they square off Sunday night in Tempe. Oregon (17-4, 6-2) began conference play in mediocre fashion, losing at rival Oregon State, and had a three-game win streak snapped Jan. 17 at Colorado. It bounced back by sweeping a two-game homestand, beating then-No. 21 USC and knocking off UCLA. Free NCAAB College Basketball Picks. The Ducks followed with their biggest statement victory Thursday, ending No. 18 Arizon a's 49-game home winning streak with an 83-75 win. Top Rated Sports Handicappers. The Wildcats shot 61 percent from the field - the best mark for an Oregon opponent in 15 years - but the Ducks forced 19 turnovers and committed a season-low six. Oregon hasn't won the regular-season conference crown since 2001-02, but Arizona coach Sean Miller believes the Ducks have what it takes to end that drought.'' They are a hard-playing unit, together as a team, and they love each other," Miller said. "You can tell they care a lot about their university and they care a lot about their program. You can kind of feel that they're playing for a cause, and that cause is to win.'' Dillon Brooks scored 24 points, and the sophomore forward is averaging 21.0 over his last five. He's shooting 53.6 percent in that span while going 9 of 21 from 3-point range after previously hitting 13 of 54 ( ;24.1 percent).'' I was shooting it bad in non-conference (games). I worked on it, worked on it, worked on it and it paid off," Brooks said. "It's an amazing feeling." Elgin Cook added 13 against the Wildcats, and his 23 points helped Oregon win 68-67 in overtime at Arizona State in the last meeting Jan. 30, 2015. Profitable NCAAB College Basketball Handicappers. The Ducks are hoping this contest isn't nearly as competitive with the Sun Devils (12-9, 2-6) sitting near the bottom of the conference. Hurley took over a program that has made just one NCAA Tournament appearance in the last six seasons and knows he needs to be patient before Arizona State reaches that level again. Handicapping Sports. The Sun Devils had dropped six of seven before impressing Hurley with Thursday's 86-68 home win over Oregon State. NCAAB College Basketball Handicappers. They shot a season-high 59.3 percent from the field and had five players score in double figures, led by Obinna Oleka's 17 points. Arizona State held the Beavers to 43.1 percent and was much better defensively after allowing an average of 80.3 points through its first seven conference games. Leading scorer Tra Holder finished with eight points and took only six shots after averaging 14.4 attempts over his previous seven, but he held Beavers star Gary Payton II to two points." It's a good feeling right now to see the team play that way," Hurley said. "It started on defense, how we guarded them in the first half. The numbers reflected that. I thought we had great energy, getting deflections and generating stops." Holder could be tasked in this contest with guarding Cook, who is averaging 17.5 points in the last four games. Cook ha s attempted a team-high 102 free throws and now must deal with the ASU student section's "Curtain of Distraction," which on Thursday featured a shirtless Michael Phelps trying to distract opposing shooters. Oregon is among the Pac-12's worst free-throw shooting teams at 69.2 percent. Oregon State went 9 of 20 on Thursday.

NBA Preview: Golden State Warriors vs. New York Knicks - 1/31/2016 - 7:30 PM EST

NBA Preview: Golden State Warriors vs. New York Knicks - Date: 1/31/2016 Time: 07:30 P.M. EST Venue: Madison Square Garden   The Golden State Warriors are well aware that even the lowliest opponents are salivating at the chance to knock them off, and they got another reminder in the opener to a three-game trip. After Harrison Barnes bailed them out, the Warriors will try for a better performance Sunday night against the New York Knicks. Golden State (43-4) blew a 24-point lead in the second half Saturday against league-worst Philadelphia and looked like it might head to overtime until Barnes hit a 3-pointer from the corner with 0.2 seconds left in a 108-105 victory." We know every night we play is going to be the other team's best game most likely," guard Stephen Curry said. "We're disappointed in how we played but we got a win. Sports Handicapper Picks. There are going to be a lot of different situations to go through to keep winning." The Warriors committed 23 turnovers - their most since No v. 27 and tied for their second-most this season - but had 37 assists. Free NBA Basketball Picks. They've had at least 30 assists in six consecutive games, the first team to pull off that feat since Golden State had a run of seven straight in April 1994." We kept our composure. We've got to learn a lesson to keep playing for 48 minutes. We only played 24 tonight," Curry said. With Barnes' shot, the Warriors matched the 1966-67 76ers' league-best start after 47 games. Winning Sports Handicappers. That Philadelphia team won 46 of its first 50. Golden State also remains ahead of pace on the Chicago Bulls' 72-win team in 1995-96. Profitable NBA Basketball Handicappers. They were 43-5 after 48 games. S ports Handicapper Reviews. To stay ahead, the Warriors will try to improve to 11-1 in the second half of back-to-back contests. NBA Basketball Handicappers. Their only loss was their first defeat this season Dec. 12 in Milwaukee, and only San Antonio's 8-0 mark is better. The last time it visited New York, Golden State was facing a team that finished 10-31 at home. The Knicks (23-26) have already surpassed last season's win total by going 14-10 and snapped a four-game overall slide by beating Phoenix 102-84 at Madison Square Garden on Friday. Carmelo Anthony had team highs of 19 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in his return from a two-game absence due to a sore knee. Anthony sat out each of the two matchups with the Warriors last season. He was rested for a 106-92 defeat at the Garden on Feb. 7 and had suffered a season-ending knee injury before a 125-94 road loss March 14. Golden Sta te has won in four of its last five visits to New York, and Curry scored a career-best 54 points in the 2013 defeat. He had a more pedestrian 22 in the latest visit and 25 points and 11 assists in nearly 27 minutes in the most recent matchup. Klay Thompson had a team-leading 27 points in 25-plus minutes in that home victory, and has a combined 77 points in his last two games. He had a season-high 45 in a 127-107 win over Dallas on Wednesday." They're a championship team, they really are," said Knicks rookie Kristaps Porzingis, who had seven points and seven rebounds in his return Friday after missing his first game of the season Thursday with an upper respiratory illness. "They're playing at an amazing level right now so it definitely won't be an easy game for us, but it's an opportunity." Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Festus Ezeli might return Sunday following a two-game absence due to an injured left knee. Andre Iguodala was rested for the first time this season Saturday.

NBA Preview: Phoenix Suns vs. Dallas Mavericks - Date: 1/31/2016 Time: 07:00 P.M. EST Venue: American Airlines Center   If the Dallas Mavericks are to improve their position in the Western Conference, they know they'll need to take advantage of an upcoming glut of home games. Free Guaranteed Sports Picks. They draw another favorable matchup in Sunday night's meeting with a decimated Phoenix Suns team that's yet to win on the road in 2016. Currently 1 1/2 games behind fifth-place Memphis and five back of the Los Angeles Clippers for fourth, Dallas (27-22) has a chance to gain some ground during an 18-game stretch in which it plays 14 times at American Airlines Center, where it's won nine of 12." It's an important stand for us," guard Deron Williams said. "We've only got a couple one-game trips in the next month or so. We've got to make the most of this opportunity." The Mavericks got the stretch off to a good start with Friday's 91-79 win over lowly Brooklyn, contin uing their recent trend of beating the weaker opponents on the schedule. In having split its last six games, Dallas owns victories over the Nets, Minnesota and the Los Angeles Lakers - teams that are a combined 35-110 - while losing to contenders Oklahoma City, Houston and Golden State. Phoenix (14-34) qualifies as a soft spot - it's a league-worst 2-18 since Dec. 20 and 4-21 on the road. Free NBA Basketball Picks. The Suns have lost 13 straight outside Arizona, 12 by double-digits. While defending teams has been a season-long problem, injuries to Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight have led to issues on the offensive end as well. Make Money Betting Sports. The Suns are averaging 92.6 points over their last seven games and 18.3 turnovers over the past six. After committing 23 giveaways in Wednesday's 113-95 loss at Cleveland, Phoen ix had 16 in Friday's 102-84 defeat to New York to fall to 0-3 on its four-game trip.'' You've got no chance when you turn the ball over,'' coach Jeff Hornacek said. ''I don't know, when I look at the turnovers they seem like basic plays we don't even complete. If you can't complete the basic plays, you're in for some long nights.'' Bledsoe underwent season-ending knee surgery Dec. 29 and Knight will miss a sixth straight with a groin strain, leaving the backcourt in the hands of youngsters Devin Booker and Archie Goodwin, who have provided mixed results. Booker is averaging 20.0 points over his last six games after recording 21 against the Knicks. Goodwin averaged 23.3 over a three-game stretch capped by an 11-of-15, 26-point effort Tuesday in Philadelphia, but he's gone 6 of 25 from the field while totaling 18 points in the past two. With Williams, shooting 27.9 percent over his last four, and Wesley Matthews - av eraging 6.7 points in his last three - both slumping, Chandler Parsons has carried Dallas' offense of late. Profitable NBA Basketball Handicappers. The forward is averaging 24.3 points over a six-game span and gone 26 of 44 from 3-point range in his last eight. Parsons posted his first double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds against Brooklyn, while Zaza Pachulia had 16 points and 12 rebounds after missing the previous three games with a sore Achilles.'' He's a walking double-double,'' Parsons said. ''It's definitely good to have him back and get our normal starting lineup again.'' Raymond Felton has totaled 35 points in Dallas' two wins over Phoenix this season, the last a 104-94 victory Dec. 14 that began the Suns' road skid. NFL Handicappers. The Mavericks recorded a 111-95 w in in Phoenix in the Oct. 28 opener.

NBA Preview: Boston Celtics vs. Orlando Magic - Date: 1/31/2016 Time: 06:00 P.M. EST Venue: Amway Center   The Boston Celtics got plenty of assistance from their reserves to extend their win streak to a season high and a remarkable string of scoring performances. A chance to sweep the scuffling Orlando Magic in a home-and-home series Sunday night would only seem to aid their hopes of continuing both runs. Boston (27-21) had seven players score in double figures in a 113-94 victory against Orlando on Friday, including four from its bench. Kelly Olynyk and Marcus Smart led the way with 16 points apiece as the Celtics' bench totaled 62, its second-highest output this season. Profitable NBA Basketball Handicappers. This last little bit we've played pretty well together, I think, the first and second unit," Olynyk said. "We've had that continuity and just getting used to each other and playing together, and really carving out roles." In addition to collecting its fifth consecutive win, Boston scored at least 100 points for an 11th straight game. MLB Handicappers. That's the franchise's longest streak since a 12-game run in 1995-96." They're playing at a level like we were five to six weeks ago," Orlando coach Scott Skiles said. "They get up, they get into you, they try to make it difficult, and you try to run something (and) they just blow right through it." The Celtics get another matchup with the Magic (20-25), who have allowed an average of 112.0 points in their last four games. Boston shot 50.0 percent and went 10 for 24 from 3-point range in sending Orlando to its eighth consecutive loss and 12th in 13 games." We've go t to figure something out. We've got to do it fast or it's just going to keep going south," guard Victor Oladipo said. "We've said it all. We've been saying it all the past couple of weeks, and we've just got to do it. NBA Basketball Handicappers. There's nothing more we can say." Orlando has struggled at the other end of the floor for much of that miserable stretch, scoring 93.1 points per game. Oladipo has totaled 41 points and 15 rebounds in the last two visits from the Celtics. He had 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists in a 110-91 victory Nov. 29. NCAAB Preview: Wichita State vs. Evansville - Date: 1/31/2016 Time: 04:00 P.M. EST   Wichita State has easily handled all of its Missouri Valley Conference rivals this season except for Evansville. Sports Picks for Today. The No. 22 Shockers will seek a more decisive result while attempting to spoil the Purple Aces' perfect home record Sunday and push coach Gregg Marshall into a tie for the school wins record. Wichita State (15-5, 9-0) has won its conference games by an average of 21.1 points following an 80-54 rout of Loyola of Chicago on Wednesday. Free NCAAB College Basketball Picks. The only conference game they didn't win by at least 16 points was a 67-64 home victory over Evansville on Jan. 6. Best Sports Picks Service. The Aces never trailed by more than nine and rallied to tie the game with 3:32 to play but couldn't get a lead in the second half. Missouri Valley leading scorer D. J. Balentine turned it over in the waning seconds before getting off a potential game-tying shot." I think we both showed why we were (voted) No. 1 and 2 in the preseason (MVC poll)," Shockers senior Fred VanVleet said. VanVleet and Anton Grady both made key layups in the final three minutes after Evansville had pulled within one. Grady scored 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting and had a team-best seven rebounds. VanVleet was the only starter in double figures with 16 points and had a season-high nine assists. Ron Baker was held to nine points - well below his team-leading average of 14.7 - while missing seven of 10 shots. Still, he's averaging 17.0 points in Wichita's six-game winning streak in the series. Profitable NCAAB College Basketball Handicappers. The Aces (18-4, 7-2) are tied for second place in the M VC with Southern Illinois, two games behind the Shockers. With a matchup against the Salukis at home Wednesday, Wichita State has a prime chance to build some cushion atop the conference. Sports Betting Handicapping. The Shockers can also push Marshall past Ralph Miller's school record of 220 victories by winning the next two games." That would be wonderful. It would be an honor because I know how well thought of (Miller) is," Marshall said. "He's the only non-player that's hanging in the rafters at (Koch Arena)." Wichita has won its four conference road games by an average of 21.7 points and its past two at Evansville by an average of 18.0. In last season's visit, the Shockers held the Aces to their fewest points in the past eight seasons in a 61-41 victory. NCAAB College Basketball Handicappers. The Ac es are 11-0 at home this season and have won 14 straight at the Ford Center. They're among the nation's top shooting teams at 52.1 percent from the field. They shot 55.4 percent against Southern Illinois on Thursday but needed overtime for an 85-78 victory. Mislav Brzoja scored a career-high 25 points and Balentine matched that output. Balentine, averaging 21.3 points, had a season-low 14 on 6-of-17 shooting with five turnovers at Wichita. Jaylon Brown scored 18 points, one shy of his career high, to begin his current streak of seven straight games in double figures." Fred was told going into the game to help off of (Brown) a little more," Marshall said after the win. "We're going to have to adjust that scouting report." However, Marshall's team did a solid job defensively on Egidijus Mockevicius, who was held to nine points but grabbed 16 rebounds. The senior center leads the nation with 14.2 boards per game while averaging 16.7 points.

NBA Preview: Chicago Bulls vs. Los Angeles Clippers - 1/31/2016 - 3:30 PM EST

NBA Preview: Chicago Bulls vs. Los Angeles Clippers - Date: 1/31/2016 Time: 03:30 P.M. EST Venue: STAPLES Center   While the Los Angeles Clippers keep insisting that Blake Griffin's absence will benefit them in the long run, the Chicago Bulls think a tweak to their lineup might help them now. Winning Sports Gambling. The Clippers look to keep rolling without Griffin on Sunday as the Bulls continue their longest road trip of the season seeking their first winning streak since early January. Griffin has been out since late December, first with a quadriceps injury and now with a broken right shooting hand after punching a team staff member last weekend - an injury that may keep him out until mid-March. Los Angeles (31-16) has fared just fine, though, winning 14 of 17 games since he was injured Christmas Day. Chris Paul finished with 27 points in Friday's 105-93 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, but it was a 56-25 bench advantage that lifted the Clippers. Los Angeles' 43.1 bench points per game in Griffi n's absence rank toward the top of the league, up from the 31.3 that previously ranked 23rd. Reserves Austin Rivers, Lance Stephenson and Jamal Crawford combined for 48 points Friday.'' There are a lot of guys that are playing more than they were with Blake, so when he comes back we're going to have that much deeper of a team,'' Rivers said. Los Angeles, though, did struggle to an average of 90 points in its previous three games. It's the defense that has impressed, holding opponents below 95 points in nine of the last 18 games. Profitable NBA Basketball Handicappers. That previously happened only eight times in 29 games. Winning Sports Handicappers. The Clippers, who have won 11 of 14 at home, have forced an average of 19.3 turnovers during their three-game winning streak while allowing 88.3 points per game. NBA Basketball Handicappers. The Bulls (26-19) haven't won two straight in more than three weeks, losing seven of 11, but seem to think they've found a short-term answer as they await the return of some key contributors. E'Twaun Moore started in place of Tony Snell at small forward Thursday and helped speed up Chicago's pace in a 114-91 rout of the Lakers to open a seven-game trip. Free Sports Picks Today. The Bulls averaged 93.8 points in their previous three games. Moore made his first start since he was with Orlando in 2013, and though he scored just eight points, his quickness on defense led to fast-break opportunities. He had two steals and several pass deflections, and the Bulls finished with 21 fast-break points - their most since having 27 on Nov. 9." E'Twaun is huge at spacing the floor," guard Jimmy Butler told the te am's official website. "He's guarding and plays incredibly hard. ... I like him in the spot he is in." Butler, named an All-Star earlier in the day, made 11 of 17 shots for 26 points and matched a career high with 10 assists. Chicago finished three off a season best with 29 assists on 47 made baskets. Pau Gasol had 21 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists, and Derrick Rose logged 16 points with assists on a behind-the-back pass to Moore and an alley-oop lob to Jimmy Butler on the break. Rose feels Moore "should be out there" not just because of how he's playing but how the team plays." It's all about running," Rose said. "There's no way we should have three guards on the floor and not be running." Moore played a season-high 36 minutes and may continue to see an expanded role with Nikola Mirotic (appendicitis) and Mike Dunleavy (back) sidelined. Mirotic will be out until after the All-Star break, and Dunleavy might see his first action later on this trip. Moore didn't even play when the Bulls beat the Clippers 83-80 in Chicago on Dec. 10. While Gasol had a game-high 24 points, Paul and J. J. Redick combined to shoot 7 of 27. Butler has helped hold Redick to 9 of 35 in the last three meetings.

NCAAB Preview: Northwestern vs. Iowa - 1/31/2016 - 3:00 PM EST

NCAAB Preview: Northwestern vs. Iowa - Date: 1/31/2016 Time: 03:00 P.M. EST   The positive aspect from Iowa's first conference loss is that any pressure it felt to live up to its lofty ranking and continue the school's best start in Big Ten play in 46 years fades a bit. Handicapping Sports. That's just the way coach Fran McCaffery likes it. NCAAB College Basketball Handicappers. The third-ranked Hawkeyes look to extend their home winning streak to 14 Sunday by dealing Northwestern a fifth consecutive defeat. Iowa (16-4, 7-1) responded to a heartbreaking 83-82 loss at then-No. 4 Iowa State on Dec. 10 by winning its next nine, including a pair of victories over Purdue and Michigan State, the latter of which held the top ranking in their Dec. 29 meeting. Baseball Predictions. The Hawkeyes won their first seven Big Ten games for the first ti me since going 14-0 in 1969-70, and Jarrod Uthoff emerged in a national player of the year candidate. But Uthoff, who is tied for the conference scoring lead (18.4 points per game) and leads in blocks per game (2.85), went 2 of 13 from the floor and finished with a season-low nine points in Thursday's 74-68 loss at eighth-ranked Maryland. Iowa was 5 of 24 from 3-point range in its first game as the nation's No. 3 team since 1987 after shooting 45.2 percent from beyond the arc over its previous four." I don't panic either way and neither do (the players)," McCaffery said. "We take a business-like approach. Free NCAAB College Basketball Picks. That's how we were Thursday night after the game and before the game." That's how we'll be before and after the Northwestern game. If you get too emotional, it makes for a long season." T he Hawkeyes had won 13 straight conference games since Northwestern beat them 66-61 in overtime Feb. 15. Iowa avenged that loss with a 69-52 home victory in the regular-season finale and has won six of the last eight matchups. Handicapper Return on Investment. The Wildcats (15-7, 3-6) are capping their first stretch of four straight against ranked opponents since 1989-90. Profitable NCAAB College Basketball Handicappers. They began that run by pushing Maryland to overtime Jan. 19 before falling 62-56, but followed that with an 89-57 loss at then-No. 25 Indiana on Jan. 19 and Thursday's 76-45 home loss to 12th-ranked Michigan State. Northwestern shot 20.7 percent from the field, its worst mark since hitting 17.9 percent against the Spartans on Jan. 27, 2000. Tre Demps missed all seven of his 3-point attempts and finished with four points, and leading scorer Bryant McIntosh went 4 of 15 from the floor. McIntosh leads the Big Ten with 6.8 assists per game, but he had only two as the Wildcats finished with more free throws made (17) than field goals (12).'' I can sit up here for an hour and we can talk about a lot of things, but if you can't put the ball in the basket you're not going to win against really good teams,'' coach Chris Collins said. "You're going to have some bumps in the road and some tough nights, especially when you play in the Big Ten." Uthoff is averaging 19.3 points and shooting 52.4 percent from 3-point range over his last three against the Wildcats, but McCaffery isn't taking Northwestern lightly." Northwestern is a team you have to defend," McCaffery said. "It all starts with McIntosh, and they run good stuff. They'll rotate guys and (Collins) has some pieces and can get you with bodies. He h as more size and length than he has ever had."

NCAAB Preview: Wake Forest vs. Notre Dame - 1/31/2016 - 1:00 PM EST

NCAAB Preview: Wake Forest vs. Notre Dame - Date: 1/31/2016 Time: 01:00 P.M. EST   Notre Dame's previous stint as a ranked team lasted four weeks, but this one could prove even shorter - especially if leading scorer Demetrius Jackson remains out. Jackson will likely sit again as the No. 25 Fighting Irish look to avoid back-to-back defeats Sunday against scuffling Wake Forest. Notre Dame was ranked in the first three polls this season but dropped out after losing two of three to finish November. Sports Handicappers. The Irish (14-6, 5-3 ACC) crept back in following a season-high four consecutive victories, most notably a 95-91 win at then-No. 9 Duke on Jan. 16. NCAAB College Basketball Handicappers. That streak ended with an 81-66 loss at Syracuse on Thursday that Jackson missed because of an ailing right hamstring." In this league, you have to forget about a win at Duke. You have to forget a loss at the Carrier Dom e," coach Mike Brey said. "You get thumped, you get your butt kicked, it only counts as one league loss. If we could get through the first half of the season at 6-3 ... I'd be absolutely thrilled." V. J. Beachem scored a career-high 22 points while going 5 of 8 from beyond the arc, but Steve Vasturia (16 points) was the only other Notre Dame player in double figures. Vasturia moved over to point guard because of Jackson's injury, and the Irish committed nine of their 11 turnovers in the first 15 minutes." We were a little rudderless at times without Demetrius, no question, and we may have to keep playing without him for a while," Brey said. Notre Dame is 10-1 at home and could survive without Jackson against the Demon Deacons (10-10, 1-7), losers of five in a row, but things get much tougher after Sunday's game. Soccer Picks. The Irish will face three top-20 teams in their next four along with a Clemson squad that's 6-2 in the ACC. Free NCAAB College Basketball Picks. The Irish lost both meetings with Wake Forest in 2013-14 but won 88-75 on Feb. 17, the Deacons' first trip to South Bend, while making 27 of 28 free throws. Wake Forest heads into Notre Dame this time 0-4 in ACC road games with three of those against ranked opponents. Best Sports Handicapping Services. The Deacons are playing their fourth consecutive Top 25 team after a nearly unfathomable loss to No. 11 Virginia on Tuesday. Profitable NCAAB College Basketball Handicappers. The Cavaliers escaped with a 72-71 win when Darius Thompson banked in a 3-pointer at the buzzer. Wake Forest blew a 10-point lead in the final 77 seconds." This is a very disappointing and tough 'L' to take. They're all tough," coach Danny Manning said. "To be in a situation where we have a lead for 35 minutes of a game and not come away with a win, it's just tough." Freshman guard Bryant Crawford scored a career-high 22 points and leading scorer Devin Thomas (16.4 ppg) had 19. Thomas had 26 points - the second-most in his career - and 11 rebounds in last season's loss to Notre Dame. Wake Forest has lost 12 straight road games against ranked ACC opponents since beating No. 24 North Carolina in January 2010.

NCAAB Preview: Maryland vs. Ohio State - 1/31/2016 - 1:00 PM EST

NCAAB Preview: Maryland vs. Ohio State - Date: 1/31/2016 Time: 01:00 P.M. EST   Preview Video Robert Carter and Rasheed Sulaimon have enjoyed plenty of success in their brief time at Maryland, but never more than they experienced two weeks ago against Ohio State. Gambling Profit. The pair of transfers hope for a similar result from the eighth-ranked Terrapins' largest blowout victory of the Big Ten season when they travel to Columbus for a rematch against the Buckeyes on Sunday. Carter and Sulaimon are playing their first seasons for Maryland since transferring from Georgia Tech and Duke, respectively, and they are part of a balanced attack that has the Terrapins (18-3, 7-2) in the thick of the conference race. Maryland is the only Big Ten team with five players averaging double-digit points - Carter (13.4) and Sulaimon (10.6) along with Melo Trimble (14.3), Diamond Stone (13.0) and Jake Layman (10.7). Carter and Sulaimon had 17 apiece i n Thursday's 74-68 victory over No. 3 Iowa, providing Maryland relief after losses in two of its previous four games. Still, it was a distant second to the duo's most combined points as they totaled 47 in a 100-65 win over Ohio State on Jan. 16. Carter made 10 of 13 shots for a career-high 25 points and Sulaimon finished 9 of 10 for a season-high 22. It was the Terrapins' first 100-point game since December 2012 and first against a conference opponent since their 2001-02 national championship season. However, Maryland needed overtime to beat Northwestern 62-56 three days later and dropped its second straight road game with a 74-65 loss at then-No. 11 Michigan State last weekend - with Carter and Sulaimon combining for just 33 points between the two games. Hence the sigh of relief after Thursday's win over the Hawkeyes - albeit following an ugly performance after the Terrapins shot 9 for 27 and 0 for 10 from 3-point range in the second half.'' It wasn& #39;t always pretty, but we played hard and we competed,'' coach Mark Turgeon said. ''Everybody that cares about Maryland basketball was in a panic, but we weren't. We didn't overreact. You could tell our guys were really ready to compete.'' Ohio State (14-8, 6-3) allows only 65.8 points per game, but the 100 it surrendered to Maryland earlier this month was its most in regulation since a 107-75 loss to Purdue on Feb. 7, 1998. Profitable NCAAB College Basketball Handicappers. They followed with a 75-64 loss at then-No. 22 Purdue on Jan. 21, but have righted the ship since, holding Penn State and Illinois to 109 combined points in consecutive victories. Ohio State shot just 39.1 percent in Thursday's 68-63 overtime win in Champaign, but held the Illini to 32.1." I feel like we grew up a lot (Thursday night)," said Trevor Thompson, who led the Buckeyes with 16 points off the bench. "Our past road games haven't gone as well, and in certain situations we would have folded. But in this situation we came together, and we just executed the game plan." Now the Buckeyes return to Value City Arena, where they have won nine straight and all four of their conference matchups. Sulaimon has averaged 19.5 points in two games against Ohio State, the first in 2012 as a freshman with Duke. Maryland is 10-1 this season when he scores in double figures.

NCAAB Recap: Oregon State (63) vs. Arizona (80) - Date: 1/30/2016 Gabe York made six 3-pointers and scored 24 points, both career highs, and No. 18 Arizona bounced back from a rare home loss to beat Oregon State 80-63 on Saturday night. Ryan Anderson added 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats (17-5, 5-4 Pac-12), who were coming off an 83-75 loss to No. 23 Oregon on Thursday night that snapped Arizona's 49-game home-court winning streak. Sports Betting Leads. Tres Tinkle scored 16 for the Beavers (12-8, 3-6), who stayed with the Wildcats until the final 10 minutes. Olaf Schaftenaar added 14 points and matched his career high with four 3s. Gary Payton III had nine points, seven rebounds and six assists for Oregon State. NCAAB College Basketball Handicappers. The win was No. 300 for coach Sean Miller in his career, first at Xavier and now at Arizona. Blown out at Arizona State 86-68 on Thursday night, Oregon State trailed Arizona 51-49 after Langston Morris-Walker's layup with 10:44 to play. York responded with a 3-pointer and the Wildcats were off on a 10-0 run. Parker Jackson-Cartwright's 3 made it 61-49 with 8:18 to play. Schaftenaar's 3 cut the lead to 63-55 with 7:28 to go, but York hit another from behind the arc to start a 7-0 spurt and the Beavers never threatened seriously again. Soccer Predictions. The first half was tight for the Wildcats, who were chewed out publicly by Miller after their loss to Oregon, Arizona's second defeat in a row. After falling behind by eight in the early minutes, the Beavers outscored Arizona 12-1 to take an 18-15 lead on Tinkle's 10-foot floater midway through the first half. York brought the Wildcats back. He sank three 3s and Jackson-Cartwright added another in a 15-4 run that gave Arizona a 30-22 lead with 5:53 remaining in the half. But a pair of 3s by Schaftenaar helped cut the Wildcats' lead to 34-30 at the break. Cleveland came in 0-5 against San Antonio, Golden State and Chicago, three top-tier teams who figure to contend with them for a title this season. Lue has the Cavs playing at a faster pace and the Spurs, who were again without center Tim Duncan, couldn't keep up with them. Duncan missed his third straight game with a sore right knee. Kawhi Leonard scored 24 and LaMarcus Aldridge 15 for the Spurs, who lost for just the second time in 16 g ames. Free NBA Basketball Picks. They lost to the Warriors on Monday. Cleveland's 117 points were the second-most given up this season by San Antonio, which came in allowing a league-best 90.6 points per game. James scored the next three when he was fouled while going to the basket by San Antonio's Patty Mills, who was flicked aside like a gnat by the four-time MVP on his way to a layup and three-point play. Down by 17 points at the half, the Spurs scored the first eight of the third quarter, a spurt that prompted an oh-no-here-they-come vibe through Cleveland's loud crowd, which was in playoff form. But the Cavs responded with a flurry that showca sed their offensive depth. Love and Dellavedova hit 3-pointers and James powered inside for several baskets, helping Cleveland push its lead to 88-69 late in the third. James scored 16 in the quarter. James, too, made one of his signature defensive plays by chasing down Spurs guard Manu Ginobili on a breakaway and blocking his shot at the rim. Love scored 18 points in the first half, when the Cavs opened a 17-point lead and gave the Spurs their glimpse of their new, fast-paced offense. Without Duncan and with Aldridge on the bench after picking up three quick fouls in the first quarter, the Cavs had nothing to stop them inside and were able to do what they pleased.
