NHL Recap: San Jose Sharks (4) vs. Los Angeles Kings (1) - 11/30/2016

NHL Recap: San Jose Sharks (4) vs. Los Angeles Kings (1) - Date: 11/30/2016 Although the San Jose Sharks and the Los Angeles Kings have one of the NHL's liveliest rivalries, the ice has been tilted decidedly toward the north in the past 14 months. Particularly when the clubs meet down south at Staples Center, where the Sharks have made themselves at home. Logan Couture had two goals and an assist, Ryan Carpenter scored his first NHL goal and San Jose extended its recent mastery over the Kings with a 4-1 victory Wednesday night. Kevin Labanc also scored and Martin Jones made 26 saves against his former team in the Pacific Division-leading Sharks' fifth win in six games. Couture and Carpenter scored 30 seconds apart in the final minute of the first period, and Los Angeles couldn't recover from that defensive lapse.'' Anytime we play LA, there's no speeches needed,'' San Jose coach Peter DeBoer said. & #39;'We know it's going to be a hard game, and our guys respond to the challenge.'' They also make themselves at home in downtown Los Angeles. Free Sports Picks Daily. The Sharks won at Staples Center for the sixth consecutive time, including three playoff victories last spring. San Jose ousted the Kings in the first round on the way to the Stanley Cup Final, and the Sharks' control over their oldest rival has continued this fall with two regular season victories.'' They play tough in this building,'' Couture said. ''They come out with energy. Free NHL Hockey Picks. They're physical. Sports Betting Profit. They're big. Profitable NHL Hockey Handicappers. They'r e strong. Sports Handicapping Software. They're difficult to play against, (but) this is how we played last year down the stretch and into the playoffs. We get up on teams, (and) it's tough for teams to come back. We defend well, and (Jones) makes big saves and we walk out with the win.'' Couture, who sharply criticized the Kings and Norris Trophy-winning defenseman Drew Doughty last year after their playoff series ended, added an empty-net goal. He has only two multipoint games this year - and both were against the Kings. Doughty tried and failed to keep Couture's late clearance from settling in the Kings' empty net.'' I saw the replay and got a little chuckle out of it,'' Couture said. ''He's a special player, a guy I see all the time in the summer. It's always fun to play the best players in the world, and it's fun we get to play him all the time.'' Dustin Brown scored for the Kings, whose five-game winning streak ended with another frustrating night against their upstate rivals. Peter Budaj stopped 20 shots in Los Angeles' first home loss in seven games since Nov. 1.'' We know they're a good team,'' Gaborik said. ''It was a tight game out there at times, but they had a few odd-man rushes which we normally don't give up. Hopefully our game will get better and better.'' After Labanc converted Couture's pass on a 2-on-1 break to open the scoring, Couture got his team-leading eighth goal in the final minute of the Sharks' three-goal first period. Carpenter, an AHL All-Star last season while leading San Jose's top affiliate in scoring, found the net in his fourth NHL game over two seasons - although Budaj probably should have stopped the shot between his legs. Joel Ward had two assists in the sequence for the Sharks. Brown finally got t he Kings on the board early in the second period, roofing a rebound of Gaborik's shot during a power play for his fourth goal. NOTES: Gaborik played his second game of the season and got his first regular season point since Feb. 12. He missed Los Angeles' first 21 games with a broken foot. ... San Jose beat Los Angeles 2-1 on opening night at the Shark Tank. ... Los Angeles had the previous three days off. D Matt Greene returned to the lineup and Tom Gilbert was scratched. NCAAB Recap: USC (76) vs. San Diego (55) - Date: 11/30/2016 Bennie Boatwright hobbled out of Jenny Craig Pavilion on crutches and his sprained left knee in a brace, an injury that put a damper on Southern California's 76-55 victory against San Diego and left the undefeated Trojans wondering how long they'll be without their second-leading scorer. Sports Handicapper King. The 6-foot-10 sophomore forward was hurt when he collided with USD's Juwan Gray while taking a shot just three minutes in. Boatwright stayed on the floor for a few minutes while being tended to and had to be helped to the bench. He also had to be helped into the locker room at halftime. We're hoping it's a few weeks vs. the season.'' Chimezie Metu had 19 points and 13 rebounds, and Elijah Stewart scored 15 points for the Trojans (7-0), who led the whole way in beating the Toreros for the second straight season. De'Anthony Melton added 14. Boatwright, who missed the first two games with back spasms, was averaging 13.5 points.'' It was the first of a five-game road swing for the Pacers, who had won two straight. Portland was still missing forward Al-Farouq Aminu, who has been out for more than two weeks with a calf injury. NCAAB Recap: Ohio State (61) vs. Virginia (63) - Date: 11/30/2016 London Perrantes knew he wasn't playing well, and if he had any doubt whatsoever, coach Tony Bennett let him know.'' I got after him,'' Bennett said Wednesday night after Perrantes scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half and No. 7 Virginia overcame a sloppy performance and rallied past Ohio State 63-61 on Wednesday night in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. ''I did, and he responded.'' Perrantes, who had three turnovers by halftime, hit three 3-pointers in the second half to spark the Cavaliers' surge.'' I knew I wasn't playing to the best of my ability or even anywhere close,'' the senior point guard and four-year starter said. ''I'm glad he kind of got into me. Sports Handicappers Rankings. That's the most I got ripped by him sinc e I've been here and it sparked us all.'' Devon Hall added 12 points for the Cavaliers (7-0), who trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half and didn't take the lead for good until Marial Shayok's baseline runner made it 59-57 with 1:58 remaining. Profitable NCAAB College Basketball Handicappers. The Buckeyes (6-1) trailed 63-61 when Shayok missed two free throws with 10.5 seconds left. Coach Thad Matta called a timeout with 6.5 seconds to play, but JaQuan Lyle couldn't find an open teammate as the clock ran down and launched a 3-point try that missed badly.'' I hope we take a lot from it because I told them after the game, `We're close, but we're not there yet,''' Matta said. As the Cavaliers rallied in the second half and the crowd whipped into a frenzy, the Buckeyes hurt their chances with 11 of their season-high 20 turnov ers, some of them more caused by carelessness than pressure from Virginia, and they almost all proved costly.'' As great teams do, they capitalized on every mistake we made down the stretch,'' Matta said. Jae'Sean Tate led Ohio State with 14 points and Lyle had 12. BIG PICTUREOhio State: The Buckeyes are knocking on the door of the Top 25 with only one senior on their roster in forward Marc Loving, their third-leading scorer. Matta has lots to work with, especially in Tate, an athletic, and impressive sophomores C. J. Jackson and Lyle, and win or lose, tight games in packed arenas like John Paul Jones Arena can only help Ohio State as it moved toward play in the rugged Big Ten. Virginia: It's when outside shots aren't falling that the Cavaliers will most miss forward Austin Nichols, a transfer from Memphis who was eligible this season, but was kicked off the team after the second game for a violation of team rules. Nichols was not only a gifted in side scorer, but a rebounder and rim-protector on defense and when the Buckeyes drove mercilessly to the basket in the first half, Virginia had no answer, getting outscored 22-4 in the paint in the half. Virginia closed the margin after the break, and finished trailed 32-18 in the paint. SPARKPLUGThe Buckeyes' Jackson found his stroke, hitting three 3-pointers in four tries. He came into the game 1 of 11 from beyond the arc. The way he played tonight is the way we expect him (Anunoby) to play on a consistent basis,'' Johnson said. ''The way he came out determined to get on the glass, that really got him going.'' North Carolina (7-1), which trailed for a total of 16 seconds during its four-game trip to Hawaii, never led and spent most of the game trailing by double digits. Indiana jumped to a 17-7 lead, extended the margin to 28-11 and never allowed the Tar Heels to get closer than 61-57 with 4:52 to play. Profitable NCAAB College Basketball Handicappers. The Tar Heels were led by Justin Jackson with 21 points and Kennedy Meeks with 10. North Carolina was 13 of 22 on free throws.'' ''We weren't ready for the intensity, the enthusiasm, anything that you want to talk about in the first half.'' BIG PICTURENorth Carolina: The curse of No. 3 continues. With Kansas losing on opening night, Indiana losing last week and now the Tar Heels falling, three of the four teams ranked No. 3 this season have lost in their first appearance in that spot. Player safety should be considered first. I think they made the right decision.'' Sacramento announced the postponement on Twitter and razzed the 76ers, saying ''y'all can trust the process but not the floor? Smh (shake my head), (at)Sixers.'' Fans booed when the postponement was announced. 76ers CEO Scott O'Neil said tickets to Wednesday's contest would be valid for the makeup game, and fans in attendance also would get an additional ticket to another game - either Dec. 5 vs. Denver, Dec. 14 vs. Documented Handicappers. Toronto or Dec. 18 vs. Brooklyn - plus a rebate on parking.'' I know this is a tremendous inconvenience to the fans, so I certainly apologize on behalf of the organization,'' O'Neil said. At least one game has been postponed in six of the past seven seasons. UP NEXTKings: At Boston on Friday night.76ers: Host Orlando on Friday night.

Helped by seven turnovers, including five from DeRozan, Memphis took a 28-25 edge into the second quarter on the back of 11 points from Marc Gasol. Memphis pushed its lead to eight to open the second, but Lowry led Toronto back with nine points to close to 57-55 at the half. Best Free Sports Picks. The Hokies (6-1) trailed 67-63 late in the second half before a 3-pointer by Justin Bibbs started an 8-0 run. Seth Allen gave Virginia Tech the lead with a driving layup, then added a 3-pointer. Duncan Robinson's 3-pointer with 42 seconds left pulled Michigan (5-2) to within a point, and an offensive foul on Allen gave the Wolverines the ball back. But Michigan was out of timeouts, and Zak Irvin ended up trying a tough jumper from just inside the arc that missed. After Bibbs made two free throws with 3.9 seconds left, Robinson had a chance to tie it, but his 3-pointer from the left wing missed. NBA Preview: Detroit Pistons vs. Boston Celtics - 11/30/2016 - 7:35 PM EST

NBA Preview: Detroit Pistons vs. Boston Celtics - Date: 11/30/2016 Time: 07:30 P.M. EST Venue: TD Garden  BOSTON -- Al Horford will be back in the Boston lineup when the Celtics host the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night. Horford, who missed nine games this season because of a concussion, was not with the team in its easy win at Miami on Monday night because his wife gave birth to the couple's second child. Amazingly, Horford had to defend not being at the game after a local talk-show host said he should have chartered a jet and joined his team in Florida." My family's very important to me," he said Tuesday. "For me, I'm in more of a unique situation because this is our first year here (in Boston) and my wife, we all moved in the middle of the pregnancy. And just a lot going on. So I just felt like it was important for me to really be there, supporting her. And we have a son as well." ; So for her, it's been a lot thrown at her these past few months. So I know that it meant a lot for me to be there with her, and knowing our schedule ahead and everything. So I'm just very happy that the Celtics really take the time and they consider us not only as players but as people. And people that have families." After Horford's sister came to his defense on Twitter, the player put the whole thing in perspective, saying, "I don't really read into any (criticism). I don't read Twitter and stuff, and the radio and all that. I just kind of focus on the court, on my job here, and then off the court on my family." Everybody has their opinion. I respect anything that anybody has to say. I care a lot about the group and our guys. Like I was explaining earlier, for my family's sake it was important for me to be there for them. Just with our transition and everything. So that's that. Now I can put that behind me and get focu sed again on (Wednesday's game)." That contest will be against a Detroit team that won easily beat the Hornets on Tuesday night, a 112-89 win at Charlotte." Give them their due -- four games in five nights, it's awfully difficult in this league," Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy said of the Hornets. "I think they ran out of gas a little bit in the second half. But still, we did what we were supposed to do. It was important for us to do that, so I was happy." The Pistons won despite the ejection of big man Andre Drummond in the second quarter for throwing an elbow at Roy Hibbert -- a non-believing Drummond laughing and shaking his head as he walked off the court following the flagrant-2 call. Profitable Sports Handicappers. Tobias Harris scored 24 points and Marcus Morris and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 18 apiece for the Pistons (9-10)." It says a lot about ou r team, but most importantly about guys like Aron (Baynes) and Jon (Leuer) to fill in for that role and be productive and bring the energy that (Drummond) had when he was out there," Harris said. "We just kept playing with them." The Celtics (10-7) cruised to a 112-104 win in Miami and came away saying Heat coach Erik Spoelstra told his players that Boston guard Marcus Smart was "a hothead." "I was begging for Spoelstra to get a technical foul because he was saying a lot of stuff," Boston's Jae Crowder said. "He was everywhere (Monday) night, but that's one of the things he did say. When they went to intentional foul Marcus, it was obvious that what they were trying to do was more than just foul. Profitable NBA Basketball Handicappers. They were trying to get under his skin and play a little physical, and kno wing he wanted to retaliate for the most part. So it's just part of the scouting report on I guess Marcus that he wears his emotions on his sleeve." The Pistons and Celtics played Nov. 19 in Auburn Hills, Boston winning 94-92 with Isaiah Thomas scoring 24 points and dishing out eight assists.

NBA Preview: Indiana Pacers vs. Portland Trail Blazers - 11/30/2016 - 10:05 PM EST

NBA Preview: Indiana Pacers vs. Portland Trail Blazers - Date: 11/30/2016 Time: 10:00 P.M. EST Venue: Moda Center The Portland Trail Blazers seem determined to improve their defensive performance, beginning Wednesday night with a home date against the Indiana Pacers. On Monday, 12 hours after a 130-114 drubbing by the Houston Rockets, the Trail Blazers began to lay the foundation with a video session and a spirited practice focused on defense." This is the first time we've had a real practice in what seems like forever," point guard Damian Lillard said. "It was good for us to try to sharpen up, (to have) coaches challenge us." It's to the point now where our pride has to kick in. We have to show how much we actually care about ... being better defensively." The Rockets scorched the Blazers with 56.1 percent shooting, including 47.2 percent (17 for 36) from 3-point range. P ortland owns the worst defensive efficiency rating in the NBA (109.80) and is giving up more points (113.7) than any team in the league other than Brooklyn (114.0). Sports Handicapping Service Winning Streaks. The Blazers (9-10) are tired of talking about getting better at the defensive end." We keep preaching it, but it's getting old," guard Allen Crabbe said. "At some point, it has to click. We keep telling ourselves we have to get better, but at some point, we have to get it going." The Blazers are one of the better offensive teams in the NBA, but they have trouble stopping anybody. Cleveland blitzed them for 137 points, Golden State for 127, Houston for 126 and 130, even Phoenix for 121." We scored 125 points against Cleveland," Lillard said. "That's a lot of points to score and not win a game. Right now, we're not getting it done on the defensive end. Profitable NBA Basketball Handicappers. That's what it comes down to." We're going to put points on the board, but we have to find a way to get better at coming up with more stops. If (an opponent's) execution gets harder, the (shooting) percentage is going to go down. We have to make them more uncomfortable more consistently." Indiana, meanwhile, begins a five-game road trip coming off impressive back-to-back routs at home of the Brooklyn Nets (118-97) and the Los Angeles Clippers (91-70). Top Rated Sports Handicappers. The wins were achieved without the services of star forward Paul George, who has missed six of the past seven games -- and will also sit out Wednesday's contest -- with ankle and back injuries. NBA Basketball Handicappers. The Pacers also emphasize defense, led by point guard Jeff Teague, who ranks fourth in the NBA in steals at 2.11 per game." I have to be aggressive defensively and do my best to ignite and get guys going by pressuring the ball," Teague told the media. "Everything else will take care of itself. (The last two games) we're moving the ball better, guys are making shots and guys are playing with confidence." Coach Nate McMillan is striving for consistency in both effort and performance." We talked about not taking steps back," McMillan said. "We've played some good games, and then you can't recognize the team the next game. We need to build some momentum at this point in the season." McMillan has been impressed with the work of 20-year-old center Myles Turner, who averaged 16.5 points, 10 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots the last two games going up against Brook Lopez and DeAnd re Jordan." Hey, welcome to the center position in the NBA: (Atlanta's) Dwight Howard to Brook to Jordan the last three games," McMillan said. "They're big, powerful guys. (Turner) is still developing and growing into that position, defending the basket. He's working. Sports Handicapper Picks. That's the one thing he brings to the floor every night."

NCAAB Preview: Ohio State vs. Virginia - 11/30/2016 - 9:15 PM EST

NCAAB Preview: Ohio State vs. Virginia - Date: 11/30/2016 Time: 09:00 P.M. EST  Sixth-ranked Virginia has never missed an ACC-Big Ten Challenge. Free Winning Sports Picks. This week marks the 18th annual battle between teams from two of the top conferences in the country, as the Cavaliers enter their matchup Wednesday night with Ohio State in Charlottesville, Va. riding a two-game win streak in the competition. On the flip side, the Buckeyes have dropped two straight in the challenge and take on Virginia for the second straight season. Virginia knocked off Ohio State in Columbus 64-58 last year behind 22 points from Malcolm Brogdon, who now plays for the Milwaukee Bucks. Point guard London Perrantes missed last season's game after an appendectomy but will be at full strength this season. Perrantes is coming off of a tournament MVP award at the Emerald Coast Clas sic last weekend that saw the Cavaliers take home the title with wins over Iowa and Providence. Providence head coach Ed Cooley had high praise for the 6-foot-2 senior point guard." He might be one of the most poised basketball players I have ever seen play the game of basketball," Cooley said after the Friars' loss to the Cavaliers. Perrantes put in 11 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists to help Virginia stay unbeaten at 6-0 this season. Ohio State is coming off of a 41-point win over Marshall on Friday and also enters Wednesday night's game at 6-0. Free NCAAB College Basketball Picks. The Buckeyes have spread the wealth so far this season as they boast six players averaging at least 10 points per game. Number #1 Sports Handicapping Service. Thad Matta's squad is led by Jae'Sean Tate who is sco ring at a 14 points per game clip and is pulling down seven rebounds per game. He will be a handful for Virginia's frontcourt. Profitable NCAAB College Basketball Handicappers. The Buckeyes will likely not come close to their 111-point outing against Marshall as Virginia enters Wednesday with the nation's top scoring defense. Providence scored 52 points against the Cavaliers and became the highest-scoring Virginia opponent this season. Iowa managed just 41 points against the Cavaliers in Friday night's game after they came in averaging 94 points per game. Sport Handicapping. The Hawkeyes followed up that performance by scoring 92 points against Memphis. Bottom line is, Virginia's defense is already in mid-season form just six games into the season. Ohio State ranks 33rd in the country in rebounding as they pull down and average o f 41 per game but they might be tested by a Virginia team that is outrebounding its opponents by 13. Bench scoring has been a key for the Cavaliers and it should continue to be as Perrantes and guard Darius Thompson became the first starters to lead the Cavaliers in scoring when they tallied 11 points apiece against Providence. Freshman Kyle Guy continues to shine for Virginia as he provides a spark off of the bench for Tony Bennett's team. NCAAB College Basketball Handicappers. The Cavaliers look to improve on their 10-6 record in the challenge while Ohio State looks to even up its 7-8 record.

NCAAB Preview: North Carolina vs. Indiana - 11/30/2016 - 9:15 PM EST

NCAAB Preview: North Carolina vs. Indiana - Date: 11/30/2016 Time: 09:00 P.M. EST  BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - No. 13 Indiana will try to summon karma from its banner-hoisting past when hosting No. 3 North Carolina Wednesday night in a nationally televised ACC/Big Ten Challenge clash. Sports Betting Leads. The Hoosiers' 1981 National Championship team, which defeated the Tar Heels in the title game, will be honored in a halftime ceremony. NCAAB College Basketball Handicappers. That Bob Knight squad had Isiah Thomas, Randy Wittman, Ray Tolbert and Landon Turner, among others. Problem is, those guys can't suit up against the latest Tar Heels (7-0), who are fresh off three wins by an average of 30.3 points at the Maui Invitational including a 71-56 finale over Wisconsin on Nov. 23. North Carolina's path to finishing last season as an NCAA Tournament runner-up included a 101-86 victory over Indiana in the Sweet Sixteen at Philadelphia." I'm not going to go out and make my reservations for the Final Four," Tar Heels head coach Roy Williams said after the Wisconsin win. "I've never seen a national championship won the day before Thanksgiving. It's usually won that first Monday night in April." He would know. He celebrated national titles in 2005 and 2009. Indiana (4-1), ranked third before losing in overtime at Fort Wayne and dropping 10 spots, could be without its leading scorer in junior guard James Blackmon Jr., who is questionable with a left knee injury. Free Picks Against the Spread. The 20.5-point scorer, who also leads the team in 3-pointers with 15 out of 32 attempted (.469), missed Sunday's 85-52 home rout of Mississippi Valley State. Blackmon has a lengthy history of significant knee injuries. He tore his left ACL in high school, meniscus in the same knee early in his college career and last year the right ACL prior to the Big Ten opener and missed the rest of the season." This afternoon, I go run, and I come through the weight room at the end before I go home to change, and there he is in the weight room doing his leg exercises,'' Indiana head coach Tom Crean said after Sunday's win. "He's very, very diligent on getting himself ready. He's been through a lot. Been through a lot before he even got here." So we've just got to make sure that we're patient with him and help him get through that part of it, and he'll know his body. He's certainly got great support here, and he'll get that. And we'll just see how the next few days go.'' While the Hoosiers average 88.6 points scored and have allowed 69.6 per game, the Tar Heels sport a 92.9-point average w hile allowing 65.6. Both teams shoot 3-pointers well - Indiana has made 51 of 128 (.398) while North Carolina has hit 47 of 120 (.392).
